Atekon Technology's Automated Wastewater Treatment System Solutions
Release date:
2020-05-18
Wastewater treatment refers to the process of separating, degrading, or transforming pollutants contained in domestic sewage, industrial wastewater, and other sources—using a series of physical, chemical, and biological methods—to ensure that the treated effluent meets national or local discharge standards (or reuse water standards) before being released back into the environment or reused. It is a core component of modern urban infrastructure and environmental protection, playing a critical role in preventing water pollution, safeguarding public health, and conserving water resources.

Medium-Scale Wastewater Treatment System
For the medium-scale wastewater treatment control system, six PLC control stations are employed. Each control station utilizes NA-300 series PLCs and NATouch touchscreens—both independently developed by Nanda Aoto. All PLCs and HMIs support industrial Ethernet, which is connected via an industrial switch to the plant-level fiber-optic ring network. This setup enables seamless communication with the I/O server, alarm/historical data server, engineer workstation, and operator workstation computers. Industrial Ethernet offers significant advantages, including long communication distances, high-speed data transmission, and strong resistance to interference.

Large-scale wastewater treatment system
For large-scale wastewater treatment control systems, the NA-400 series PLCs and NATouch touch screens—both independently developed by Nanda Aoto—are employed. All PLCs and HMIs support industrial Ethernet, connecting via an industrial switch to the plant-level fiber-optic ring network, enabling communication with I/O servers, alarm/historical data servers, engineer stations, and operator station computers. Meanwhile, the central monitoring system interfaces with the management system through a network switch, seamlessly completing data acquisition and monitoring tasks.

The PLC control stations for the large-scale wastewater treatment control system are located at the site of each process area within the wastewater treatment plant, primarily comprising PLC cabinets, programmable controllers, operator panels, and network interfaces. Each PLC control station is interconnected via shielded network cables, while the control stations themselves are linked to the central monitoring system using fiber-optic cables.
Due to the large scale of the wastewater treatment plant, which involves a significant number of control points and demands high levels of safety and reliability in its control systems, the control system is designed using the NA400 series PLCs. This ensures the system can meet the plant's requirements for handling a large volume of control points. Additionally, a dual-rack CPU redundancy setup and a ring network architecture have been implemented to further enhance the system's safety and reliability.
