Big News | Aoto Technology Powers China's First Commercial Line Featuring an Autonomous Train Control System (TACS)—Qingdao Metro Line 6 Phase I Officially Opens for Operation

On April 26, 2024, at 10:16 a.m., Phase I of Qingdao Metro Line 6 officially began operations. This project is a national demonstration project and also the country's first demonstration project featuring a fully autonomous operation system (TACS), marking Qingdao Metro's entry into the era of smart transportation.

The first phase of Qingdao Metro Line 6 is located in the West Coast New Area, spanning approximately 30.8 kilometers and featuring a total of 21 underground stations. Once operational, it will facilitate rapid connectivity between the West Coast New Area and Qingdao's eastern and northern urban districts, providing more convenient rail transit support for the development of this national-level new area.

This line employs a series of smart technologies, including intelligent stations and advanced operation & maintenance systems. The smart station leverages cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, visual recognition, and inspection robots, enabling automated control and intelligent management of operational processes. As a result, the station boasts enhanced, highly intelligent operational services and management capabilities, significantly boosting the efficiency of overall operations and management.
Aoto Technology provided the BAS system solution for Phase I of Qingdao Metro Line 6, utilizing its large-scale programmable controllers from the NA400 series and intelligent PLCs from the NA2000 series. This innovative approach has ushered in a smart transformation for metro operations, enabling automated monitoring, start-stop control, and efficient management of nearly 10,000 mechanical and electrical equipment items across all stations and tunnel sections of Qingdao Metro Line 6—including ventilation and air conditioning systems, water supply and drainage, lighting, and escalators.
Meanwhile, Aoto Technology's PLC, paired with the Totally Autonomous Control System (TACS), provides trains with features such as autonomous control and intelligent start-stop operations. Without relying on ground-based signaling commands, the trains can independently determine their operating time, speed, and designated zones according to the timetable, significantly enhancing both operational efficiency and safety.
