Application of NA200 on Automatic Checkweighers
Release date:
2020-04-07
Online weight inspection has gradually become an indispensable step in modern industrial production, particularly in the manufacturing processes of the food and pharmaceutical industries. Automatic checkweighers measure product weights during the conveyance process, comparing the measured weights against pre-set ranges. Based on these comparisons, a controller issues commands to either reject products that fall outside the acceptable weight range or to sort products of different weight categories into designated areas.
Online weight inspection has gradually become an indispensable step in modern industrial production, particularly in the manufacturing processes of the food and pharmaceutical industries. Automatic checkweighers measure product weights during the conveyor process, comparing the measured values against pre-set ranges. Based on these comparisons, a controller issues commands to either reject products that fall outside the acceptable weight range or direct items within different weight categories to their designated areas.

Automatic checkweighers typically consist of a belt conveyor, a controller, and weighing instruments. Among these components, the weighing instrument is responsible for collecting weight signals and transmitting them to the controller for processing. By upgrading and retrofitting the checkweigher with the NA200 series PLC and NA-VIEW touch screen introduced by Nanda Aoto Company, the traditional setup—combining a conventional weighing instrument with a microcontroller—has been replaced. This innovative approach significantly reduces costs while delivering excellent practical results.
Hardware Configuration

Software Design
System software consists of two parts: the PLC program and the touchscreen program.
The PLC program follows the specified process requirements to complete the experimental procedure. The NA200 series PLC is programmed with a scientifically sound and logical approach, ensuring precise and stable operation of the auxiliary components within the equipment. The control process is as follows:
1. Weighing Preparation
The product enters the infeed conveyor, and the speed of the infeed conveyor is typically determined jointly based on the product spacing and the desired speed. The goal is to ensure that only one product is on the weighing platform at any given time during the operation of the checkweigher.
2. Weighing Process
When the product enters the weighing conveyor, the system identifies whether a product ready for inspection has arrived in the weighing area based on external signals, such as photoelectric switch signals, or internal level signals.
3. Sorting Process
Once the controller receives the weight signal of the product, the system compares it with the pre-set weight range and sorts the product accordingly. The main types of sorting are as follows:
- Non-conforming products are removed,
- Remove overweight and underweight items separately, or transfer them to different locations.
- Classified into different weight categories according to varying weight ranges.
4. The checkweigher also offers comprehensive reporting features, including the number of packages per zone, the total quantity per zone, the number of合格 (qualified) items, the total合格 quantity, the average value, the standard deviation, as well as the overall total and cumulative totals.
