On May 9, Unit 2 of the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River successfully began operation after being equipped with a domestically produced control system. This marks the first time in China that an 800,000-kilowatt hydroelectric generator set has achieved chip-level, independent control over its core systems.
The No. 2 unit at the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station is a large-scale hydroelectric generator set with a single-unit capacity of 800,000 kilowatts, independently designed and manufactured in China. This achievement marks a significant leap in domesticating key power-generation equipment—from the 700,000-kilowatt to the 800,000-kilowatt class. The station boasts a total installed capacity of 6.4 million kilowatts, generating an average of 30.747 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually over many years.
The successful grid connection of the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station holds significant demonstration value for accelerating the development of China's self-reliant and controllable industrial chain in the hydropower control sector, enhancing the power system's resilience to risks, and ensuring national energy security.
